The North Bay Rose Society was founded in 1980 to bring together people who love roses and to help each other grow better plants and blooms in our gardens. NBRS serves the communities of American Canyon, Benicia, Fairfield, Napa, and Vallejo, California. NBRS is a member of the American Rose Society and is part of the ARS Northern California-Nevada-Southern Oregon District.

  • Member Meetings

    The North Bay Rose Society holds monthly meetings except in September (Rose Tour) and December (Annual Luncheon) the second Sunday of the month, from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. at the Florence Douglas Center, 333 Amador Street in Vallejo. Visitors are always welcome. Admission is free. Free refreshments are provided. The other months of the year, major events are held in lieu of meetings.

    There are always two speakers at every meeting. One is a rose expert who gives advice on what to do in your rose garden that month. The other speaker presents an informative and interesting program on roses. Examples of past programs are summarized in Programs. Spring to Fall, at meetings members display blooms from their rose gardens and vie for Best of Show in Little Rose Shows. Every meeting a raffle is held. For just one dollar a ticket, entrants can win rose-related prizes like pruning shears, soil amendments, and even rosebushes!

  • Events

    The North Bay Rose Society holds major events in January, Spring, September, and December. 

    In January it’s time to prune roses in our area so NBRS holds a free rose pruning class in the Grant Mahony Park rose garden in Vallejo. The NBRS annual Rose Show is in the Spring. Members compete in bloom display, rose photography, and rose arrangements. The public is welcome. Admission is free. Members open their rose gardens to members and their friends in September. After a busy day of enjoying roses, everyone gathers for a potuck supper. December brings the end of year brunch and installation of new officers and board members.

    Other events held during the year include deadheading roses in the Grant Mahony Park rose garden from Spring to Fall and classes in rose display, rose photography, and rose flower arrangements preparing members for the annual Rose Show.

  • Advice

    NBRS has Consulting Rosarians and Master Rosarians on call to offer free rose growing tips and problem-solving advice in free in-person consultations or over the phone. CRs and MRs are accredited by the American Rose Society after meeting strict initial qualifications and passing a national exam which covers horticulture, soil science, irrigation, and chemical use and safety.

    In addition, there are always one or more CRs or MRs at every NBRS meeting and major event.
